Google+ Minus Users

Is Google+ failing? Google has been pushing Google+ since its release, trying to quash the Facebook behemoth before it becomes too big to stop. Google+ has great apps for iOS and Android, awesome features like Hangouts with multiple people, and grew at an exponential rate. But based on personal observation and a new report from RJ Metrics, Google+ isn’t as successful as some may think or Google may try to lead people to believe.

A study based on usage data from 40,000 Google+ constituents shows that most public posts have less than one +1 and users make very few publicly viewable posts in general. The major issue with this study is that it only tracks public posts viewable to everyone, not private posts intended for one’s circles. In a statement to Fast Company, who originally posted this study, Google stated that “more sharing occurs privately to circles and individuals than publicly on Google+.”

Regardless of this study’s validity given that focuses on public posts, Google+ certainly doesn’t seem to be taking off. Maybe Google will provide the public with active Google+ user data. I hope for Google’s own sake, as well as the need for competition, Google+ takes off. As of now, the future doesn’t look too bright.
