Where Does He Get Those Wonderful Toys? Batman: Arkham City Collector’s Edition

Batman Arkham City Collector's EditionHoly random extra stuff in the box, Batman! The collector’s edition for Batman: Arkham City by Rocksteady Studios has been revealed. For an extra $40 over the price of the regular game, you get a statue by Japanese toy company Kotobukiya, an art book, some collectible cards, the ability to download the soundtrack, a copy of the movie Batman: Gotham Knight, and early access to some downloadable content (the Iceberg Lounge Challenge Map), and a skin for Dark Knight Returns. I assume that last bonus means 70-year-old Batman.

The question then being — is it worth the extra $40? I already have Gotham Knight on Blu-ray, so I don’t need another copy. I don’t much care about the cards. The soundtrack is listed as having original songs by “hit artists,” which has me somewhat cringing because of its vagueness. Art books are nice, but they tend to be looked at once. So, it comes down to early access to downloadable content and a statue. Is that worth $40?

In any event, the game is due out on October 18, along with the standard version of the game, for PS3, Xbox 360, and Games for Windows PC. The game itself looks awesome, but I’m just being down on “collector’s editions” in general. It’s also listed as being “Limited Edition,” but you can still buy the first game’s Collector’s Edition brand new, usually for about half price.

The statue alone would run $40, so I would definitely say yes.
