Holy Blanking Blank! Techcitment Appears On The Colbert Report

Colbert

Last night, Techcitement received a nod from The Colbert Report — winner of multiple Emmys, two Peabody awards, a special recognition by the GLAAD Media awards, and current home to Captain America’s shield — for its article bout male birth control by Jon Clinkenbeard. During a segment called “Cheating Death with Dr. Stephen T. Colbert, D.F.A.”, one of America’s most-trusted fake newsmen (sharing that honor with Jon Stewart) discussed the “birth control procedure that’ll allow men to be sluts too” and then went on to briefly detail how this procedure happens with a cartoon drawing of scissors and testicles. Not all comedy is subtle. Colbert then goes on to describe how the procedure is reversible (an idea that many readers skimmed past in the original article, which led to many repeated cases of more astute readers issuing corrections to said skimmers) with an injection of baking soda and water. Take a look for yourself at our brief, albeit giddy-laughter-inducing, appearance on The Colbert Report for yourself.

The male birth control article and its topic has resonated with a lot of people. But how many?

The article  has had a total of 1,299,247 views as of this moment.

The article has been mentioned by The Colbert Report, The Huffington Post, The Good Men Project, The Hairpin, Jezebel, French version of GQ magazine, and many more.

The article saw not only a mention in that French GQ, but in many different languages around the world.

We touched on the topic again with a related article about how a different birth control procedure, in pill form, could help eliminate the spread of all semen-borne STDs, including HIV.

Obviously, this is a topic that’s important to many people, and we’re happy to be part of the conversation. We also welcome the Colbert Bump that’ll hopefully come with this quick call out to Techcitement.

    Very cool indeed!

If you want to pursue the male contraception subject, here is another reversible approach that’s been studied for a few years, now and seems to be remarkably effective in monkeys: it targets a protein essential for sperm mobility.
