Kazaa Is Back And On iOS

Are you an iPhone user who subscribes to a streaming music service and aren’t happy with your current provider? Then you might be in for some good news, with an old name — Kazaa has just released an app to the Apple App Store for the iPhone and iPad.

Kazaa, we had such good times back in the day in the early 20oos, when you were KaZaA and I was a freewheeling kid with little regard for intellectual property rights! Originally, KaZaA was one of the first and most successful peer-to-peer downloading clients created in the wake of the Napster’s absence. These days, much like Napster, Kazaa has been purchased by new owners and has become a subscription-based music streaming site.

The app allows users to stream music, download for offline use, sync with the Kazaa website, and listen to artist-based “radio stations.” Kazaa’s makes this sound like an exclusive feature, but I can’t think of a streaming service that doesn’t have one. The app comes with a seven day trial and for a $9.99 a month subscription, users can also listen to music in higher quality.

Now, you have one more service to compete with Grooveshark, Pandora, Rdio, Spotify, MOG, Napster, Rhapsody, Zune Pass, Slacker, and any others I’ve missed/forgotten (that you should add in the comments section), and that’s not counting ones that let you stream your own personal music collection.

Suddenly, I have this urge to download Metallica bootlegs, just to piss off Lars for nostalgia’s sake.

    I think I’ll wait for the ad-free K++ edition. ;)

    You forgot LastFm! In my opinion it’s the best, although I don’t really count myself as a connoisseur. It has interesting features like scrobbling, and it mixes up well-known artists with almost unheard-of bands that have a similar sound.
