Real Life Astronaut Rock Star Covers David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” In Space

Canadian-born astronaut Chris Hadfield hands over command of the International Space Station today, but not before taking the Blue Marble by storm with a cover of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” performed from space. It’s a remarkably well done music video and just about the coolest thing ever. (See the original “Space Oddity” music video from Bowie’s 1969 promotional film “Love You Till Tuesday” at the end of this post!)

Back on Earth, the rock star who wrote the song in 1969 got wind of Commander Hadfield’s video and seems pretty psyched about it, too.

Astronauts have always been a cross between cowboys and rock stars, and Commander Hadfield has been resetting that bar to a higher level in his brief time at the space station. We can only wonder how the next generation of astronauts will top this.
