Drop Aims To Make Your Kitchen Measurably Smarter

Confession: When Techcitement saw the Drop being demoed at a recent event, we almost walked right past it. A connected scale? Big deal. Except the Drop is more than a scale that shows results on your tablet (iOS only for now, Android coming soon). The goal with Drop isn’t just connectivity, but contextual awareness. You can drop in an ingredient and the companion app will know when you have enough and move on to the next step. Add too much? It will adjust the other ingredients. Anyone who’s ever added a half teaspoon too much salt will appreciate this feature. Like so:

One cute feature I enjoy is that to avoid mucking up your clean touchscreen, the Drop features a capacitive button for app navigation. The red silicon cover is nice, but personally, I wish it came with options (in my own kosher kitchen, red denotes meat, blue dairy, and never do the two mix). While the Drop will ship for the holiday season at a price point of $99, right now, you can pre-order for $80. Is Drop right for you? As someone who enjoys baking and cooking but has been known to miss a step, it certainly grabs my interest.
