On The Cheap: T-Mobile And BlackBerry’s Public Tiff Can Pay Off For You

It’s sad when people fight, but when corporations do, the consumer can end up being the real winner. BlackBerry CEO John Chen called out T-Mobile, referring to an ad campaign as anti-BlackBerry for daring to suggest BlackBerry customers might want to trade their handsets in. Never mind that every company is basically doing trade-in offers, right?

T-Mobile, a company that has been less than shy as of late, has responded by making the sort of promotion Chen was accusing it of having: one specifically targeting BlackBerry users. Starting today, February 21, you can bring in any working BlackBerry and get a $200 credit towards the smartphone of your choice. Unless, of course, you choose a BlackBerry Z10 or Q10; then, you get a $250 credit. This puts the lie to BlackBerry’s claims of T-Mobile treating the one-giant Canadian company as a lesser choice.

The extra $50 is for the learning curve.

While the ad wording says “current BlackBerry”, don’t assume it must have an active line of service on it. We’ve reached out to BlackBerry and have confirmed that all you need is a BlackBerry OS device that boots up, with no water damage.

If you’re looking to switch to any of T-Mobile’s competitively priced plans and have a BlackBerry lying around, this should tip you in that direction. If you’re already on the Magenta Network, this is a great excuse to bump up to a better device.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a Torch to charge.
