HP’s Second Android Tablet Slated For Summer Debut

HP SlateBook

We here at Techcitement are waiting for our Slate 7 review unit to show up, but then again, so is everyone else. The tablet is suspiciously absent from major review sites. So, we can’t comment on the first (official) Android tablet from HP just yet. What we can note is that HP’s lower end pricing and internals make it seem less like a challenge to the Nexus 7 than a company’s attempt at testing the waters.

HP seems ready to dive in now with the Slate x2. Instead of aging specs, the Slate x2 will actually be the first “detachable” form-factor Android tablet to market with NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 Quad core chip. That’s an impressive first for a company that’s fairly new to Android. Priced at $479, the device gives the impression of an HP netbook that has been given the ability to transform (with apologies to ASUS) to a tablet. Unlike other tablets of this type, it appears that the Slate X2 will be sold with the keyboard included. This translates to a seemingly higher price, but it balances out.

Love me some skinless Android.

Love me some skinless Android.

While HP’s Windows 8 tablets seem to have a little more visual sparkle, the Slate x2 seems ready to compete with other Android tablet hybrids from ASUS and Lenovo. In fact, I’d go so far to say that it’s possible that HP may have learned from the disaster that was the last August tablet launch (he said, lovingly gazing at his TouchPad).
