New Phone Or Tablet, Make This Your Tech New Year’s Resolution

800 x 400

Now that we’re safely in the new year, there’s something I want, nay something I must share with you.

A good portion of you probably received a new tablet or phone this holiday season. Flurry.com reports a slim majority were iOS devices, but even if you were in the minority, you still have a brand new device that you’re  breaking in. With that said, here’s a little tip from Techcitement:

Get a case.

Seriously, I cannot stress enough how important this is. Yes, your faux leather back on your Note is just the greatest. I totally agree that your color choice of iPhone or the distinctive metal look of your HTC is a perfect compliment to your personality. The thing is, you’re toting around a fragile device there. We tend to forget how breakable our smart devices are, and how expensive they are to fix. It’s such a huge thing that HTC actually replaces your shattered glass the first time it happens if it does so within the first half year of purchase. But why even get to the point where that happens?

“I can still use it.”

Full price for a basic protective case will run you $50 at the most. (I’ll be shocked if you can’t find a good one cheaper on Amazon) I’m personally fond of OtterBox, but Speck and others all make good cases that can defend your item of choice. I admit that there’s less selection when you get out of the Apple, HTC, Samsung, LG, and Motorola major brands, but they do exist.

Every day, we see people walking around with devices that costs hundreds of dollars and have huge cracks. Some of our writers get paid good money to replace screens and we know how much it can cost.

So, please, if you ever really loved us, get a case. I’ll get off yours now.

Good advice. When I first got my tablet, I would carry it with me while walking to lunch. I slipped on a wet driveway, reached out to catch myself, and *landed on the tablet* with my hand. Amazingly, there was no damage, in part because my arm absorbed some of the impact, in part because I landed flat on it and not on a corner, and in part because I had a case on it, which prevented any scratching. My phone has been saved a few times by having the case pop off (or in one instance break), though there is a nice crack in one corner of the screen. I figure it’s an identifying mark. :-)
