On The Cheap: Sprint Introduces All You Can Eat App Buffet AppPass

Let’s be blunt: having more than one app store on a device gets annoying. If you have Google Play, do you really need a separate curated source of apps from Samsung, Lenovo, or HTC? Some vendors get around the nuance by adding value – like Amazon and the daily free app deals. Others have walked away from the app selling model, like the above-mentioned Lenovo. So, why in the world would Sprint announce an exclusive app storefront dubbed “AppPass”? Because pricing.

AppPass is less a shop and more a subscription. For $4.99 a month, you can download any app (assuming it’s one AppPass has). Plus, you get a $5 per month credit for in-app purchases (a.k.a. the baneĀ of every parent’s existence).

This is a great deal for heavy users or gamers. Not so much for casual users. The question is how will the other app stores respond?
