SnApp Judgements: iCooking Barbecue

Every night at 12:15 AM Pacific, Amazon gives away a free paid app through their Amazon app store. As I am usually awake at 12:15 AM Pacific, why not let you know if today’s app is useful, or just more clutter in your app drawer?

Today’s free app is iCooking Barbecue by Apps of All Nations and usually runs for $.99. My first thought is jeebus, this is what, Amazon’s third free cooking app in the space of seven days? My second thought was oh no, another cooking app by the people that made the horrible iCookbook. It’s not, but it’s about as bad for a completely different set of reasons.

iCookbook was terrible because in trying to look fancy, the text was completely unreadable. iCooking does pretty much the exact opposite. You can read it, but it’s nothing more than recipes on a flamey background. That’s it. It has the look of a webpage from the late 90s. I keep waiting for a RealAudio player to open up.

And while yes, this app is terrible, it also has a lowercase i in front of it. That is inexcusable on an Android app. And now it’s going to be in my Amazon purchased queue forever. See, that’s the part of this job they don’t tell you about. I now have the app equivalent of herpes forever associated with my phone.
