Every night at 12:15 AM Pacific, Amazon gives away a free paid app through their Amazon app store. As I am usually awake at 12:15 AM Pacific, why not let you know if today’s app is useful, or just more clutter in your app drawer?
Today’s free game is Gravity Burst by Coldwired Games which usually runs for $.99. You play as a space station defending planets, blasting space ships with missiles. It may sound like a twitch shooter, but it’s not. The only things that move in the game are the missiles. That might not sound particularly challenging, but the missiles’ flight paths are warped by gravity, forcing you to figure out gravitational orbits in order to hit your targets.
The game isn’t particularly exciting, but the figuring out the gravity wells should be enough to keep you entertained for a little bit. I can’t help but think that with a little animation, and perhaps some wackier alien artwork, this could have been a decent Angry Birds knock off.
