SnApp Judgments: iCookbook The Complete Cooking Solution

Every night at 12:15 AM Pacific, Amazon gives away a free paid app through their Amazon app store. As I am usually awake at 12:15 AM Pacific, why not let you know if today’s app is useful, or just more clutter in your app drawer?

iCookbook The Complete Cooking Solution

Today’s app is iCookbook the Complete Cooking Solution by Publications International, Ltd which ordinarily runs for $4.99. My first impulse is to say that the app is a total waste of space, just because it’s an Android app with a tiny letter i in front of it. Seriously, I know the app already has a following on other platforms, but c’mon, you don’t see a conflict of interest here?

Obviously, I can’t test for recipe quality in the 40 seconds I’ve owned the app, but it’s not designed for a phone. Not the 3.7″ screen on my phone, anyway. While the font is just large enough for me to read, I have perfect vision and it’s a little bit of a strain on my eyes. I can only imagine how rough it would be on anyone with glasses. And for an app that is just showing pictures and text, it moves like the molasses in roast pork with citrus molasses au jus (just to prove I actually looked at the thing, that’s one of the recipes). A couple of times, I thought the app had crashed. It was just hanging on a blank screen.

Maybe this app would work better on a tablet, but on my DROID, it’s basically useless. Another one for the delete pile.
