SnApp Judgments: My First Tangrams

Every night at 12:15 AM Pacific, Amazon gives away a free paid app through their Amazon app store. As I am usually awake at 12:15 AM Pacific, why not let you know if today’s app is useful, or just more clutter in your app drawer?

Today’s free app is My First Tangrams by AR Entertainment.net, which usually sells for $1.99. It’s a kiddie game, identifying the shapes of holes and filling them with blocks to form objects.

Now, it may seem harsh to rain on the parade on a game either made for 3 year olds or the prison population of the movie Idiocracy,” but there are some real problems with this game. First, the music is kind of creepy for a little kid. It’s less rainbows and sunshine, more moment of thoughtful pause on a rainy European street. Second, once you complete a puzzle, the game doesn’t move forward to the next level. It’s up to the player to hit the back button and select a new puzzle.

But my biggest issue with the game? OK, I realize that tablets are the new electronic babysitter on the go, but really, we had to go and replace actual, physical, hold them in my hand and huck them at my little sister blocks? I’m not exactly a Luddite, but somehow, this goes to far.
