SnApp Judgments: Alarm Clock Xtreme

Every night at 12:15 AM Pacific, Amazon gives away a free paid app through their Amazon app store. As I am usually awake at 12:15 AM Pacific, why not let you know if today’s app is useful, or just more clutter in your app drawer?

Today’s free app is Alarm Clock Xtreme by Angle Labs, which usually runs for $1.49. It’s an alarm clock, although from the name, I’m guessing it drinks a lot of Mountain Dew while snowboarding. It seems to have all the good options an alarm clock app should have — you can make it force you to answer a math problem before it shuts up, it can play your own songs, it can make the alarm start off quiet, until it gets louder. If you get up early, there’s an option where it can tell that you are moving by GPS, and not play the alarm, which is potentially cool.

Although obviously, this is not an app I can truly test out without going to sleep with it. That’s the problem with alarm clock apps — you really have to put your faith into them that they’re going to work when you need them to. In any event, if you missed grabbing Gentle Alarm when it was free in the app store some time back, this is probably a decent alternative.
