Member Of Anonymous Takes Down GoDaddy.com

GoDaddy

Yesterday was a bad day to be a GoDaddy.com customer. A staggering amount of websites that use GoDaddy to host their content or email have found the service not responding, with websites and email remaining down.

In a tweet from someone named AnonymousOwn3r (who claims to be the security leader of the united hacker group Anonymous), credit is taken for the outage as a planned attack:

The member of Anonymous appears to have done this on his own and has made it clear that this is not an attack from the Anonymous collective. What he has not told the public yet is the reason he did it. With the outage at GoDaddy going strong and preventing so many from being able to perform their daily jobs, the reason had better be a good one.

Update: As of this morning, GoDaddy sites are working again – thanks to DNS supplied from one of GoDaddy’s largest competitors.
