Doctor Strange vs. Nemesis — New Fighters Added To Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 took on a more mystic slant with the addition of its two latest characters, Dr. Strange and Resident: Evil heavy Nemesis.

If you don’t know who Dr. Stephen Strange is … man, read a comic book. Created in 1963 by Stan “The Man” Lee and “Sturdy” Steve Ditko, Doctor Strange is a master of the mystic arts, up until recently the Sorcerer Supreme for the earth dimension, and utterer of awesome phrases like “By the Vishanti!” and “By the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth!” All of which mean nothing, Stan Lee just thought they sounded cool.

Gameplay-wise, as you can see from the video, Doc seems to be more of a distance fighter, utilizing powers tweaked from Storm, Iron Man, and Dormammu (who happens to also be Doc’s traditional arch-nemesis). And you have to love that hyper combo at the end, where Doc goes astral form before summoning the aforementioned Hoary Hosts.

On the Capcom side of things, Nemesis, who first appeared in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, is a corporate-created supersoldier — think the Terminator, if he were a zombie. An unstoppable, missile launcher-wielding force, it took an acid bath and a rail gun to keep him from taking out the S.T.A.R.S. team and smashing them to itty bitty pieces.

In-game, Nemesis is definitely more of a heavy hitter, with most of his attacks being either punch or grapple based, although with some projectile attacks from his missile launcher as well. It looks like Nemesis has been eating his gamma-irradiated super solder serum as well, because he’s one of the larger characters in the game. That hyper combo in the video, with him mutating into his final form, doesn’t look like anything to mess with either.

If you haven’t been paying attention, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is the update to Marvel vs Capcom 3, featuring 12 new characters, new game modes, a ton of additional costumes, and more. Strider Hiryu, Firebrand, Ghost Rider, and Hawkeye were previously announced at Comic-Con International. Website leaks show another batch of characters as probably being Dead Rising‘s Frank West, Phoenix Wight, and Devil May Cry‘s Vergil, alongside Marvel’s Iron Fist, Nova, and Rocket Raccoon (yes, seriously, Rocket Raccoon, who is awesome). UMvC3 is due out this November on PlayStation3 and Xbox 360.
