Then again, Han and crew did leave their ship to run around in the belly of a giant space worm in the next scene without pressure suits…”

This is exactly why I like to point out that Star Wars is not science-fiction, it is fantasy running around in a big shiny space-suit with lots of blinky lights.

One possible relevant work is the manga Planetes which may be out of print since Tokyo Pop went tits up.  It actually revolves around the crew of a ship that salvages space debris, but the entire setting is based on the idea that space-mining has been established on the moon (and I think asteroids).  The second volume touches on it more in a plot involving an extremist environmental group, as well as a proposed mission to send a space-ship to Jupiter.  What may particularly make the comic relevant though is how it goes through the mundane ins-and-outs of flying through space, such as maintaining your health in a low-G environment, the effects of isolation, and even just the pesky issues with litter that happen when you let those pesky humans into space.

It’s also a great character study, and Makoto Yukimura is a consummate cartoonist, particularly starting with the second volume.
