Playstation Network Issues Apology, Gifts

playstationnetwork

As you’ve likely heard, Sony’s Playstation Network has been hacked (a couple times), and the service was down a good while as they repaired the gaps in security.

That aside, Sony is now “making good” on their goof-ups, and are all but throwing free things at users hoping we’ll forget their indiscretion and move on with Giving Them  Money.

The latest apology from Sony offers free software and service upgrades. First off, PlayStation Network members are offered two free PS3 games from their PlayStation Store, with the user’s choice of InFAMOUS, Super Stardust HD, WipEout HD Bundle, LittleBigPlanet or Dead Nation.

If you’re a PSP user, you can choose two of the following: Killzone Liberation, LittleBigPlanet PSP, ModNation Racers PSP or Pursuit Force.

Additionally, all users who do not already subscribe receive one month of PlayStation Plus, the service’s premium offering of free games, discounts and exclusives. Current subscribers receive 6o additional free days.

Finally, PlayStation Home is offering 100 free virtual items.

Sony is offering 30 days to take advantage of these offers.

The first “apology” came in the form of free identity-theft protection from Debix for a full year. Not a bad PR move when you’ve just been robbed of all your user’s personal data. Sony states:

AllClear ID PLUS is a premium identity protection service that uses advanced technology to deliver alerts to help protect you from identity theft. The service also provides identity theft insurance coverage and hands-on help from expert fraud investigators.

Sony has arranged, at no charge to eligible PlayStation®Network and Qriocity account holders, for twelve months of this service to be provided by Debix to those who choose to enroll. In order to be eligible, account holders must be residents of the United States with active accounts as of April 20, 2011.
