On The Cheap: Downloading Video Games (Legally)

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of cheap games (cheap indie games, specifically), but that doesn’t mean I sit around and play free tower defense games all day (well, not every day). No, sir, I still have a taste for the big expensive wow-me games, but sometimes I wish they weren’t so expensive.

Today, I bought the Civilization V Digital Deluxe package for $15 on Steam (regularly $60) because they were having a 75% off sale. Yes, those numbers are correct and it’s a hell of a deal. And the best part? Steam regularly has sales like this on all kinds of games for PC and Mac. Of course, the downside is that some of these discounted games — like Civ V — have been out for a while.

Enter Green Man Gaming. Similar to Steam in appearance, but they pride themselves on discounts for current games. In fact, they offer 15 percent off on all pre-orders as their raison d’etre and guarantee you the lowest price in town. The town that is the internet.

If you’re into PC gaming, you owe it to yourself to check out Steam and Green Man (and Civilization V!). Happy gaming and happy wallets.
