Amazon’s Penny Pincher Sale Adds Some Pennies

When I wrote about Amazon’s amazing “every single phone for a penny” sale last week, I was very excited. Even the latest and greatest phones  — that didn’t start with an “i” — were a penny.

That’s when I did something stupid. I waited. I took care of other things and figured I would get to it when I got to it. Saturday night came and I logged on to Amazon to discover that while the sale was still going on, my phone of choice (The Galaxy SII on Sprint) was now ninety nine bucks!

That's a whole lotta pennies.

Interestingly, the Galaxy SII on AT&T (the model we reviewed) still only costs a penny, but the Skyrocket variant is now $189. The now pricier models include a note from Amazon:

Due to overwhelming response, this phone is no longer available at the promotional price. You can place an order at the current price and we will ship your phone once it is back in stock.

I’d love to know just how many got sold at the original price and if Amazon will honor that pricing. In the meantime, here are some other phones you can no longer get for a penny:

Interestingly enough, you can still get the EVO 3D on Sprint for a penny, unless you want it in plum. In that case, it’s $49. I guess a purple chassis really ups the desirability. If you had your heart set on any of these bad boys, sorry. If not, don’t play the waiting game this time! Hurry up before whatever you do want is gone.
