Is BlackBerry Sliding In A New Torch?

BlackBerry has been busy lately. Despite analysts stating high volume returns on the flagship Z10 (which the company is challenging vociferously), the company formerly known as RIM is generating buzz with the new BB10 operating system and new hardware. The second BB10 model, the Q10, comes out at the end of May and finally has a revealed price of $249 a unit. Carriers have yet to be announced, but reviews are starting to make their way online. The question is, what’s next?

BlackBerry hasn’t made it a secret that it has big plans, and a peek at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office filings gives a possible hint about those plans. First reported by Engadget, the image of a portrait slider has popped up.

Best of both worlds?

For those familiar with BlackBerry’s RIM-era Torch series, this device should strike a chord. This slider phone is also a welcome unique form factor. The Z10 is great, but it freezes out physical keyboard aficionados. Q10 brings the keyboard love, but it also brings with it a tiny 3.1″ screen, which is a depressing throwback in a market where a 4″ screen is now considered small. The portrait slider is an excellent middle ground, appealing to many.

BlackBerry’s BB Live event happens in May, so will there be a T10 unveiled there?
