Square Reimagines The Register With Introduction Of Square Stand

Square Stand

What was once most prevalent as an easy way for food trucks and farmer’s market stands to take credit cards has made its way into brick and mortar business as the register of choice. Square changed the way people can take and give payments to business, allowing for quick and easy mobile payments, and now the company has found a way to turn an iPad into a complete point of sale system with the introduction of the Square Stand.

Clunky registers will likely find their way to dumpsters in even higher numbers as more businesses adopt the Square Stand.

“Local business owners take as a given that they need an ugly, slow, expensive, and complicated point of sale system cluttering their counter,” said Jack Dorsey, co-founder and CEO of Square, in a statement released today. “Square Stand is elegant, fast, affordable, and easy to use. Whether you’re selling cupcakes, cardigans, or cappuccinos, running your business with Square has never been easier.”

Along with Square Register, the new Square Stand does more than provide a sleek interface to run credit cards. The new device also gives merchants access to real-time analytics and thorough reporting of all transactions in an easy-to-understand, and adjustable, fashion. While they don’t come with the Square Stand, accessories that businesses often need — including a receipt printer, kitchen printer, cash drawer, and barcode scanner — can easily connect to the device. These accessories are also sold on Square’s site.

Square Stand works with an iPad 2 or 3, and a version for iPads with Lightning connectors will be available later this year. Square Stand costs $299 and is available for pre-order today. Starting on July 8, you can also purchase Square Stand in Best Buy stores and other select retailers.
