Bjork — One With Nature And Software Pirates?

Biophilia is an innate love for the natural world, supposed to be felt universally by humankind, per the Collins English Dictionary.  For Icelandic singer Bjork, Biophilia is also the title of her seventh album, scheduled for release on September 26.  Interestingly, Bjork isn’t content to release this work simply as a music CD.  Rather, she describes Biophilia as a “multi-media project encompassing music, apps, internet, installations and live shows.”  Bjork not only recorded some of the music using an Apple iPad, but she’s releasing part of the album in the form of a series of 10 separate iPad apps, all housed within one primary app.

Although some of her fans criticize Bjork’s decision to release the apps for only one platform, the famously eccentric singer reveals to DrownedInSound her expectations that software pirates will make the apps available for other devices.

“That’s why we really made sure when we wrote all the programs that they will transfer to other systems. I mean, I don’t totally understand technologically what it is that makes that possible.”, she says about the apps’ development process.

Is this focus on development for only one platform a shrewd marketing decision, or is Bjork simply selling out to Apple?
