Google+ Wants Your iPhone In Its Circle

Google released the iPhone version of its breakout-popular social media service, Google+, today. The Android version was available day-one, and the iPhone app has been stalled in Apple’s famously slow release process.

If you’re one of the umpteen bazillion (read: more than 10 million) people who jumped into a Google+ Circle in the past month, then you’re also likely a mobile phone user and can use either the iPhone app or the Android version. Whereas the mobile version of the G+ web site works great on iPhone, the new mobile app is meant to tighten your focus.

“Share just the right stuff, with just the right circles,” Google Senior VP  Vic Gundotra said in his own public G+ Circle.

The app itself is a nicely designed, clean version of the mobile service. Clearly displaying your Stream, Huddles, Photos, Profile and Circles, it’s G+ at your fingertips— just the way it should be. It even has a clear Notifications badge, and of course sends your notifications to your phone if you so desire. A neat bonus is when tapping Photos, it reads your phone to see which photos you have (displaying a thumbnail) and you can quickly add images to your G+ profile.

Google+ touts:

Google+ for mobile makes sharing the right things with the right people a lot simpler. Huddle lets you send super-fast messages to the people you care about most. And no matter where you are, the stream lets you stay in the loop about what your friends are sharing and where they’re checking in.

Features:

  • Circles let you share the right things with just the right people.
  • Stream is where you can get updates from your circles or see what people are saying about things nearby.
  • Huddle is super-fast group messaging for everyone in your circles.
The Google+ iOS app works with any iPhone and iPod Touch running iOS 3.1 or newer and can be downloaded via iTunes here.
