Last year, Toshiba introduced the Excite line at IFA. This year, however, I’m not finding much chatter.

The company introduced a personal storage device called the STOR.E CLOUD that looks kind-of sort-of interesting. Is the general consumer really building personal clouds though? This is a device that appeals to me, but I don’t see a wider audience.

You know what I do see a wider audience for? A unique, well-designed, Ultrabook tablet hybrid. There are a ton of touchable Ultrabooks out there, but they have that neither-fish-nor-foul vibe. We’re also seeing a lot of tablets you can tack a keyboard onto, such as the Asus Transformer line, but that’s more like one thing that’s pretending to be another. Toshiba wants to buck that trend with the U925t Ultrabook. Ignoring that horrible jumble of a name, the U925t has a Core i5 chip, 128 GB SSD drive, USB 3.0 ports, and front- and rear- mounted cameras, topped off by a 12.5″ Gorilla Glass screen. Giving the screen a shove reveals a hidden keyboard. Even with all of that, the device weighs in at a little over three pounds. That’s not bad for a netbook or a massive 12.5″ tablet.

Could the U925t be the best of both worlds or a horrible amalgamation? We won’t know until we get a chance to go hands on. Thankfully, we usually catch up with Toshiba on the PR circuit, so stay tuned.
