While AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon are all going gaga for Windows Phone 8, the fourth major U.S. carrier has been staying out of it. I’m not sure I blame Sprint for doing so. The somewhat struggling carrier was badly burned by investing in the initial launch of webOS and the solitary Windows Phone 7 phone on Sprint’s lineup, while the HTC Arrive didn’t sell in the expected numbers (although it did have a fairly high level of customer satisfaction).

However, one of Sprint’s MNVO licensees may have let the cat out of the bag. Ting, a division of software giant TuCows, posted an interesting blog update on Wednesday that had this juicy tidbit:

“We’ll add two Windows Phone 8 devices by the second quarter of the new year. We will do everything we can to get these devices sooner rather than later. We can’t say which specific WP8 devices these will be at present but they’re coming.

Remember, Ting doesn’t really have a line of handsets. Instead, the company tweaks and sells you Sprint cellphones at full retail. That means that if there are going to be two Windows Phone 8 devices on Ting, there will absolutely be two Windows Phone 8 devices on Sprint by second quarter of 2013. Which ones? I’d put money on a variant of the HTC 8X being one of them, as Sprint and HTC have a healthy relationship. As for the second, I haven’t seen a Nokia phone on Sprint in forever and a day, so an ATIV is more likely.

Ting’s plans are not for everyone, and a data hog like me is best served elsewhere. However, for the majority of users, it’s a a good deal and one that’s shored up by offering the new hotness in operating systems. For those of you like me, at least you know you can go to Sprint. Eventually.
