What exactly is Marvel planning for SXSW 2013? For the last few weeks, the entertainment giant has been hinting at a mysterious first it plans to announce at the festival. Last year saw the release of Marvel ReEvolution during the SXSW Interactive’s ScreenBurn Arcade (now simply called SXSW Gaming Expo). Marvel ReEvolution was revealed to be Marvel’s new digital comics format (called Infinite Comics) and Marvel’s Augmented Reality app, which allows you to “unlock exclusive content, such as video recaps, character bios, creator commentaries, and more” when you scan specific Marvel products. All that’s known about Marvel’s news this time around is that it has something to do with Marvel Now!, the 2012 relaunch (not reboot) of many of its ongoing comic books including Captain America, Uncanny Avengers (mixing Avengers and X-Men teams together), Iron Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

First, came this vague tease full of well-known and less well-known characters’ names (Doop? Nice.):

That tease was followed by another that simply replaced the characters’ names with the names of creators responsible for their stories, but this time, it’s made clear that something will launch during SXSW Interactive.
