This past Wednesday, Google announced Google Keep<\/a>, poised to take on Evernote as an unstructured collection of digital things. Google’s announcement states that:<\/p>\n

With Keep you can quickly jot ideas down when you think of them and even include checklists and photos to keep track of what\u2019s important to you. Your notes are safely stored in Google Drive and synced to all your devices so you can always have them at hand.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I’m used to having structure; I use Google Doc’s spreadsheets and Microsoft Excel workbooks all the time. In my personal life, Google Doc’s spreadsheets are my go-to for keeping track of information or ideas. Being used to having a clear structure, Keep’s lack of it isn’t useful to those like me.Then again, I’ve never used Evernote<\/a> or OneNote<\/a> or any of the others of this ilk. Plenty of people though will appreciate an alternative to Evernote<\/a>\u00a0and want to keep more of their web-brain in the Google ecosphere.<\/p>\n

How is Google going to tie Keep into other services for it to survive next year’s spring cleaning? People are reeling from the announcement that Google Reader is being shut down<\/a> in July, this writer included. Google has shut down other services in the past, so there’s a feeling of “once bitten, twice shy” with the imminent demise of Google Reader. This fear may unfortunately give enough people a compelling argument to avoid using a service that they don’t see having much of a future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
