Reviews have been less than enthusiastic, with comparisons widely made to the iPad of last year, rather than this year\u2019s iPad2. The hardware is too bulky, the software too buggy before this week\u2019s update, and the lack of apps just appalling.<\/p>\n<p>Last week\u2019s $100 price drop was a breath of fresh air, and Woot\u2019s one day offer of $120 off was almost <a href=\"..\/..\/hardware\/tablet\/woot-the-heck-is-going-on-with-the-hp-touchpad\/\">too good to pass up<\/a>. Unfortunately, Amazon has gone and ruined that bright view of the future, by offering <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B005F3EUXK\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=thtsrc-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=217145&amp;creative=399373&amp;creativeASIN=B005F3EUXK\">pre-orders<\/a> on the 4G Touchpad. The price, however, is a shocking $699.<\/p>\n<p>Now, I get that 3G has always been a premium add-on for tablets, and I can see 4G being an even greater draw, but no one is paying $300 extra for 4G on a mediocre tablet. More to the point, no one is going to pay $30 more than the equivalent iPad, even if you do get 4G instead of 3G.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s hope this is a holdover from before the price drop that Amazon just hasn\u2019t changed yet. Or possibly an off-contract price for a tablet that get a steep discount with contracts.
