Today’s free app is Space War HD<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0Virtual GS<\/a>, which usually runs for $.99. It’s a top-down shmup, something akin to… oh, let’s say 1941<\/em>, except crappier. I hope you like shooting at rocks, because that’s all you do for the first minute or so. Eventually some spaceships show up, but by that point, I’m wondering what the rocks did to me that I am so pissed off that I’m committing rock genocide.<\/p>\n On the plus side, the sound is pretty awesome. The music is a chiptune that riffs somewhere between Axel F<\/em>\u00a0and The Peter Gunn Theme<\/em>. And whenever you get a power up, a voice tells you what it is. Except the voice sounds computer generated, which is odd because they could have easily just recorded someone saying the name of the power up, but instead it’s this bored computer voice that gets the cadence of the words slightly wrong.
