{"id":85,"date":"2011-06-01T18:56:28","date_gmt":"2011-06-01T23:56:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/techcitement.com\/?p=85"},"modified":"2011-11-16T23:26:33","modified_gmt":"2011-11-17T05:26:33","slug":"spiffy-new-follow-button-for-twitter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/techcitement.com\/software\/spiffy-new-follow-button-for-twitter\/","title":{"rendered":"Spiffy New Follow Button For Twitter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Twitter <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.twitter.com\/2011\/05\/introducing-follow-button.html\">has announced<\/a> on their blog a brand new <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/followbutton\">Follow Button<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of the square button we&#8217;re all used to seeing with a simple link to a user&#8217;s Twitter page, Twitter will serve up a chicklet that leads to a special page with the user&#8217;s last few tweets, along with a brief list of followers and followees, starting with people you have in common. They&#8217;ve also tricked the button out with an up-to-the-minute follower count right inline.<\/p>\n<p>An added (and certainly planned) bonus for Twitter is that the new button forces people to stop using their old logo and switch to the one they rolled out last year.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a live example:<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"twitter-follow-button\" href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/DaveHolmes\">Follow @DaveHolmes<\/a><br \/>\n<script src=\"http:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>(No, I&#8217;m not Dave Holmes.)<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll be interested to see how quickly people integrate this new button. Twitter has  <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.twitter.com\/2011\/05\/introducing-follow-button.html\">quite a list of major media outlets<\/a> that have already adopted the button, and that may help common folks pick it up more quickly.<\/p>\n<p>I should also mention that the new design blends quite well with Twitter&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/about\/resources\/tweetbutton\">official Tweet button<\/a>, finally unifying their brand.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"twitter-share-button\" href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/share\">Tweet<\/a><script src=\"http:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, while the new button has some nice information built in, I&#8217;ve grown quite fond of my personal blog&#8217;s little line of buttons. Adding a chicklet to the bunch is almost like breaking up The Beatles. I might be quicker to switch if the design matched the Facebook Like button&#8217;s dimensions, though I do understand why they didn&#8217;t go that route.<\/p>\n<p>What do you think?
