It looks like Fox News reporter Shepard Smith has discovered what most cell phone power users have known for some time now. Namely, that just because your cell plan says it’s unlimited doesn’t mean it actually is. The TV personality’s home WiFi is down, so AT&T went and throttled his data connection. Check out the video below where Smith lashes out at AT&T, and boy does he get pissed off.

Honestly, I wouldn’t mind throttling if it were from 4G to 3G. However, generally providers throttle to 2G speeds. If you’re lucky. That speed may have felt fast in 2001, but now that we’re dealing with larger files and more frequent data use, it’s hard to adjust. Except you’ve no choice but to adjust. Your contract with your cell provider is insanely one-sided. The goal is to make it next to impossible for you to have recourse in the case of dissatisfaction. Most of us have been swallowing our pride for ages (or using Sprint, a company that doesn’t throttle).

Mister Hotshot News Person getting stung isn’t going to help with the issue, except to maybe make people more aware that they should use WiFi for data at home. Hmm, a 24-hour news station bringing awareness to an issue. That’s almost, sadly these days, an unheard of event.
