SnApp Judgments: Pocket Informant

Every night at 12:15 AM Pacific, Amazon gives away a free paid app through their Amazon app store. As I am usually awake at 12:15 AM Pacific, why not let you know if today’s app is useful, or just more clutter in your app drawer?

Today’s free app is Pocket Informant by Web Information Solutions, Inc., which usually runs for $9.99/ Wait a sec, $9.99? Someone thinks highly of themselves as an app! In any event, it’s a calendar app, a serious productivity tool, which makes it difficult to give a decent review on with 10 minutes of play time. Really, if this review were a car wash, I’ve barely sprayed some “new car scent” aerosol on the interior, let alone done anything involving water.

There does seem to be a lot of potential for customization to the app, which is good. However, I have found two things to complain about. First, there’s no home screen widget. I’m not a huge widget user in general, but the calendar widget is a fairly useful one. Second… I broke a general rule I have about reading other reviews on Amazon before I type mine up. On other platforms, Pocket Informant will sync with Outlook. On Android, it only syncs with Google Calendar. That isn’t a problem for me personally, but it does seem like unnecessarily cutting down on functionality.

Anyway, go get it, just because it’s usually $10. It makes me feel like somehow I’m getting one over on The Man.

Thanks- I just downloaded it. Anything that syncs with my Google calendars and is possibly more visually appealing on my Droid is worth checking out!
