SnApp Judgments: Golf Frontier GPS

Every night at 12:15 AM Pacific, Amazon gives away a free paid app through their Amazon app store. As I am usually awake at 12:15 AM Pacific, why not let you know if today’s app is useful, or just more clutter in your app drawer?

Today’s free app is Golf Frontier GPS by Golf Frontier LLC, which ordinarily runs $2.99. It’s a golf course map and rangefinder, letting you know how far you hit your balls using the GPS. Interesting use of the technology, potentially useful, but I am so far away from even being able to think about testing this one out. Really, there’s no way to properly judge this one on the fly. And even if I could, as a non-golfer…

Still, it’s an interesting application of mobile phone technology, integrating Google Maps with GPS for things other than the obvious uses. In theory, this is the kind of crazy stuff that Android was made for.
