Every night at 12:15 AM Pacific, Amazon gives away a free paid app through their Amazon app store. As I am usually awake at 12:15 AM Pacific, why not let you know if today’s app is useful, or just more clutter in your app drawer?
Today’s free app is Guitar Hero 5 Mobile by Glu Mobile Inc., which ordinarily runs for $7.99. Hey, a game I’ve heard of! That said, it could be better. The frame rate is running a little sluggish on my DROID and on a game like Guitar Hero, which requires split-second timing, that’s something of a problem. Also, and this might just be me comparing it to the older brother console version, the songs are just played straight through. If I miss a note, the song plays through regardless, with no drop-out or clunking noises like on the console versions. The songs also don’t appear to be full length, which is kind of a bummer.
Still, you get to tap along to music you vaguely recognize. Speaking of which, Bring the Noise with Public Enemy featuring Zakk Wylde? OK, think I’m gonna have to try me that one.
