Hurricane Irene Looks Even Scarier When Seen From Space

While the rest of us are busy boarding up windows for Hurricane Irene this weekend, astronaut Ron Garan is busy in space snapping photos like this one. And probably pointing and laughing at us.

Taken three days ago from the International Space Station, it shows Irene brooding menacingly over the Caribbean. Must be nice to be all safe and sound up there, eh Ron?

NASA has also released the video below taken from a satellite on the same day. Kind of peaceful looking from way up there, but also elicits feelings of “Hey, that might destroy my house” at the same time. Neat.
