When Marvel made the announcement during SXSW that the company was opening its library to readers for access to over 700 free first issues, the rush of people ended up causing ComiXology’s servers to crash. The entertainment juggernaut hopes to have different results this time and seeks to do so by instituting a registration policy in addition to a much shorter window of availability.
Sign up between 9 AM ET/8 AM CT today and 11:59 PM ET/10:59 PM CT tomorrow to receive your invite from Marvel Comics. After going through the registration process, you should be taken to a new page on the Marvel promo site that says the following:
Congratulations and thank you! You have signed up to get access to over 700 free comics through Marvel #1!
Starting Thursday, April 11th, 2013, we will begin notifying waves of fans by email to provide redemption instructions and let them know when they can access the Marvel #1 offer.
Don’t worry if your email doesn’t arrive on April 11th. As long as you signed up by April 9, 2013, you will receive your email soon! We want to make sure we get to all our fans so that they have the best experience possible.
Hopefully, this method of allowing readers access in waves will counter any kind of overwhelming affect so servers won’t get virtually smashed again.
