SnApp Judgments: Jelly Defense

Every night at 12:15 AM Pacific, Amazon gives away a free paid app through their Amazon app store. As I am usually awake at 12:15 AM Pacific, why not let you know if today’s app is useful, or just more clutter in your app drawer?

Today’s free app is Jelly Defense by Infinite Dreams, which usually runs for $2.99. As you could probably guess from the title, it’s another tower defense game. That said, it’s not “just another tower defense game.”

If you are a tower defense veteran, this may not be the game for you. As things go, it’s relatively simplistic. Not easy, exactly, but not dripping with nuance, either. Think of it more as “My First Tower Defense,” which makes sense when you look at the graphics.

Speaking of which, look at the graphics. Seriously, they’re pretty. Some of the best I’ve seen on the mobile platform. And silky animation. And beautiful sounds. If you ignore the gameplay, it’s one of the best games for Android. Even with the gameplay, it’s not bad, it’s just not that original if you’ve ever played other tower defense games. And I am suddenly very sick of typing the words “tower defense” together.

On the plus side, Amazon has been putting their free apps up a couple hours late than they usually do. Tonight was the first one in a couple of days where they put it up before I fell asleep.
