Microsoft Makes It Easier To Try Windows Phone 7

Switching phone operating systems is a huge deal. Odds are you’re already vested in an existing ecosystem. When I switched to webOS, I had to give up all the apps I’d purchased for Windows Mobile and PalmOS. Now that I’m switching again, I have that same sting. It’s one of the things that keeps people on their current platforms, even when they’re not happy with it. Throw in learning a new interface and people can get really turned off.

Microsoft is trying to temp people a bit more. If you go to this link from an iOS or Android device, you find yourself in a web-based Windows Phone 7 experience. I only had a second to mess with it, but it was pretty neat. There was no real lag and it felt like I was actually using WP7.

It’s an inventive idea, and one that may help — although having actual apps might help more. Try it out yourself and let us know what you think via the comment section.
