Barnes & Noble Officially Joins Tablet Party And Brings Refreshments

Thanks to hackers, the Nook Color has long been an unofficial tablet. Now Engadget has discovered that Barnes & Noble plans on making it official by releasing the Nook Tablet on November 16. You canĀ  snag something that looks a lot like a Nook Color, but is lighter, has twice the memory, and won’t need hacking.

How is the Nook Tablet going to stack up to the Kindle Fire? It’s a little too soon to say, but while Barnes & Noble certainly has the name recognition, what they might lack is Amazon’s digital infrastructure for non-e-book products. As for the Nook Color, that will drop in price to $199. So, it might be a better deal for those of you who enjoy violating your end user agreements. Although you may want to hold off, as the Nook tablet will have Hulu Plus access.

For those of you that just want an ereader, the same leaked data shows that the Nook Simple Touch will be rebranded as the Nook Simple and priced at a mere $99.

Will any of these Nooks fit your niche? Let us know in the comments.

If it has a microphone I’d consider it. The lack of voice searches or apps that interact with voice on the Nook Color is a deal breaker for me.

If it had a microphone AND a front facing camera, then I’m all in!
