Facebook Changed Your Email Address And Forgot to Tell You

facebook

Facebook just can’t leave well enough alone. Without any warning to you, Facebook changed your default email address on your profile page to your Facebook email. Yes, every single one of you. And yes, Facebook changed your listed email address to be your Facebook email address, a thing many of you probably didn’t even know you had until now. Your first instinct is probably to go to your Facebook Account Settings to correct this, but unfortunately, this won’t have any affect. In fact, clicking the edit button for your email in General Account Settings likely shows your non-Facebook email address you had before listed as your primary email address; this section even has the phantom option to remove the Facebook email from this list of choices entirely. I say phantom option because you receive an error notice if you try to remove said Facebook email.

So, that said, here’s how to remove Facebook’s imposed email from your Timeline and put your chosen one back in:

  1. On your Facebook profile page, go to your About section.
  2. Scroll down to Contact Info and click Edit.
  3. Choose your default email and use the drop-down menu next to it to highlight the “Shown on Timeline” option.
  4. Highlight the “Hidden from Timeline” option for the Facebook email address.
  5. Curse Facebook for making you have to take time out of your day to do this.

Gervase Markham of Hacking for Christ broke this story of Facebook further changing itself to push into our lives in uncomfortable ways.

It’s also a way of pushing people into Timeline. I still don’t have Timeline, so I cannot change back.
