On The Cheap: Cyber Monday Is Over, But Smartphone Savings Are Not

Yesterday was a fun day to be the writer of a column about cheap tech. I was so busy answering texts, Facebook messages, and tweets about what the best deals were that I wasn’t able to share them all here. Now that the dust has settled, I thought we could take a minute and see what’s still out there.  My guideline is simply to find great smartphones, for as close to free as possible.

T-Mobile

I don’t spend much time talking about T-Mobile here, but I was floored by what may have been the best Cyber Monday deal and I see that it wasn’t a temporary thing. Best Buy offers the Samsung Galaxy Note for free with contract. That’s a 5.3″, dual-core smartphone, and Best Buy waves activation fees, so that’s an additional savings. Yes, the Galaxy Note II is out (stay tuned for our exhaustive review), but as much as it improves on the original, that doesn’t change the fact that the original is a hell of a phone/tablet that you can get for a song.

Don’t you want me, baby?

Sadly, that about does it for T-Mobile deals that are worth the trip. The next closest thing to a good deal I could find would be LetsTalk, where the LG Optimus 9 is only $30. The Optimus 9 is a nice phone, but why bother when you can get the Note for free?
