A Promising Display Of Professional Cyber-murder At QuakeCon

Reasons why I love QuakeCon include: being Left 4 Dead (@%#! you guys) by my teammates, before the game was released. Discovering Novint’s haptic feedback controller, but being too broke to afford it (then). And oh, how the booths await my ego-engulfing lust for treasure. As you might have guessed, I’m already registered.

I can’t wait to watch this list of carnage on giant LCDs:

  • The QUAKE LIVE Duel Invitational Masters Championship
Thirty-two contestants compete in a bloody player versus player single-elimination bracket for $20,000 in prize money.
  • The Intel QUAKE LIVE Capture the Flag Open
Eight teams equalize each other in a four on four double-elimination bracket for a share of $7,000 in prize money and $4,000 to the surviving team.
  • The Intel QUAKE LIVE Duel Open
Sixty four amateur players fight in a player versus player single-elimination bracket for cut of $2,000 and $1,000 for the victor.
  • The Intel QUAKE LIVE Random Draw Free For All
Eight contestants chosen at random scramble in a five-minute-best-of-one-FFA-challenges for a share of $1,000 ($100 per victor).

General attendance is free and open to the public. The BYOC Select-a-Seat and QuakeCon done Quick packages are sold out, but just over 200 Swag Packs remain. BYOC seating will be reserved for general attendees. Remember, the mega-huge and non-stop LAN party and tournaments are only a couple of the many attractions. Grab those seats while you can.
