The HP TouchPad Is Number Two, Not Just Treated Like It

Here’s a pleasant surprise for us webOS users! A recent NPD study has revealed that while Apple’s iPad may be number one, the rapidly shelved HP TouchPad is number two. Techcitement knew the firesale was going to boost those numbers and that they were number two on Amazon for a while. But considering Samsung has several models to HP’s one, and is constantly producing them, you’d think they’d have second place.

Now, the survey didn’t include the Kindle Fire, Nook Color, or Nook Tablet, but that’s still impressive for a device that was end-of-lifed so quickly. No ideas on if this impacts HP’s uncertain plans for webOS, especially after an earnings that revealed they lost $3.3 billion onĀ  it. You’d think HP would hurry up and decide already so they company could leverage its number two position. Rumor is that the hold-up revolves around webOS on printers, one of the silliest ideas we’ve ever heard.

HP has a chance to turn last quarter’s loss into an investment in a future quarter’s gain. It would be nice to see them make the smart move and play the long game.
